Claire McHugh, a Barrister-at Law Degree Candidate from King's Inns, joins us from Dublin, Ireland, after being awarded the Thomas Addis Emmet Fellowship in Comparative Public Interest Law, an exchange program through the University of Washington School of Law.

During her time with us this summer, Claire will be working on several projects, including the Children of Incarcerated Juveniles Project, under the direction of attorney Wendy Chen and with a pro bono team from Foster Pepper PLLC.

Claire brings an interest and background working in human rights and completed a dissertation on socio-economic rights in Ireland, South Africa and India.  She has volunteered in multiple capacities on such efforts as the Amnesty Campaign Against the Death Penalty and the IJNICEF/Sidaction Conference on Childhood and AIDS in Paris.

In her spare time, she plays the violin and likes to hike; we hope the mountains around Seattle provide plenty of opportunity to discover the great hiking trails of the Pacific Northwest.
We are delighted to welcome Claire to Washington Appleseed for her summer 2007 fellowship in Seattle!
