Director's Corner

Successful Open House
By Sue Donaldson
May 8, 2006
At the event, Board Chair Brad Diggs described the mission of WA Appleseed in "sowing the seeds of justice" and involving attorneys and others in systemic public policy reform. Senior Fellow Diana Stone discussed her recently released report, other education projects and her new project that raises awareness at small businesses of the federal benefits to which some employees may be entitled. Executive Director Sue Donaldson described a project that is being developed to create greater liquidity for a non-profit provider of transitional housing for formerly homeless families and individuals so that the provider can more readily acquire additional housing in the fast-paced Puget Sound market. Sue also described other projects such as providing medical insurance for grandchildren being raised by their grandparents and better policies to address the needs of children of incarcerated juveniles. We thank Vulcan Real Estate and Rethink Urban for hosting our event.
