At Washington Appleseed, we believe in the importance of a safe home life and a clear understanding of parental rights and obligations. We take on projects that help protect families and clarify rights.

Extending Protections for DV Survivors
Many families experiencing domestic violence flee to a new location far from their abuser. Washington lacks the precedent of providing protection orders to families if the abuse did not take place in our state. Appleseed is working to provide briefs to advocates to help change the framework of jurisdiction for domestic violence protection orders.
Assistance for Parenting Girls in Detention
Pregnant and parenting girls in detention are often confused about their rights as parents during their incarceration, as are their parole officers and public defenders. Appleseed is compiling two resources to help outline girls’ parenting options and rights and help assist administrators to comply with the letter and spirit of the law.
