Helping to Build Economic Security
Individuals and families who receive disability benefit income can face significant challenges to building assets. We are helping to create a solution that informs individuals of their rights while receiving benefits, shows them how to build assets without losing benefits and teaches them how to transition from public benefits to self-sufficiency.
Seattle-King County Asset Building Collaborative
For years, asset building programs and agencies in King County operated independently of one another. Appleseed took a leadership role in founding the Seattle-King County Asset Building Collaborative to help coordinate resources and services under one umbrella organization.
As part of its commitment to ensuring equal financial opportunity to underserved communities across the country, and to assist such communities in building assets, Appleseed stresses the importance of resolving the disproportionate impact that credit scores have on thin credit communities.
Tax Relief for Working Families
Working families in Washington State often have a tough time making ends meet. Appleseed and partners at Davis Wright Tremaine researched the feasibility of enacting a state version of the Earned Income Tax Credit and helped lay the foundation for the passing of the Working Families Credit tax relief program.
