Welcome to the website for Washington Appleseed,
the Washington State chapter of the national Appleseed network.
Nationally, Appleseed is a non-partisan, non-profit organization made up of a network of public interest law centers working to identify and address injustices in their communities. We work to build a just society through education, legal advocacy, community activism and policy expertise, addressing root causes and producing practical solutions. As one of the nation's largest legal pro bono networks, Appleseed Centers work both independently and collectively, bringing their own experiences to create local solutions that are nationally relevant. We connect the top private practice lawyers, corporate counsel, law schools, civic leaders and other professionals to tackle problems locally, at their root cause.
Jun 8, 2009 - Local Program Offers Bank Accounts to All Bank on Seattle-King County, consisting of twenty-two financial institutions--banks and credit unions--is offering free and low-cost checking and savings accounts to help people avoid check cashers.
Jun 7, 2009 - Bank Accused of Pushing Mortgage Deals on Blacks According to a lawsuit against Wells Fargo, hundreds of homeowners were tipped into foreclosure because African-Americans were targeted for subprime mortgages.
Jun 4, 2009 - Promised Help is Elusive for Some Homeowners The Obama administration has devised an aid program for people already in foreclosure proceedings and others headed that way, but for those in trouble who have not yet missed a payment, help is elusive.
Each Appleseed Center does its work and raises the majority of its funds locally. Your support for Washington State's center will help bring focus to social justice policy issues here and assist in our efforts
to provide real policy
solutions for Washington
State residents.
