How Washington Appleseed Works

project_planning_425x282 original_systemWashington Appleseed works on all issues under the umbrella of social justice—hunger, homelessness, disability rights, economic self-sufficiency, etc.—and we partner with community organizations, law firms and individual attorneys to complete targeted legal projects.

Appleseed serves as a match maker between these constituencies, functions as a project manager keeping projects on task and on time, and coordinates public relations campaigns to get critical information into the hands of the people who need it.

While we work on a wide spectrum of issues, a few core criteria unite our work and define it as distinctly Appleseed:

  • The project addresses a systemic need and proposes a broad scale solution.
  • The project is generated by an organization working in the community with first hand knowledge of the needs of that community.
  • The project suggests the need for legal expertise.
  • The subject matter is not currently being addressed by another group or organization.
